It seems fitting that, after facing each other three times in 12 days in January, these two teams meet up one last time for all the marbles in Monday's Provincial Championship final, in a rematch of the overtime thriller in the 2015 Championship. The Oak Park Raiders return one player from that championship final - Wyatt Tait, who hit the three-pointer that would give the Raiders a lead they would not relinquish. They enter their second Championship game in three years on a roll, having lost only twice to Manitoban teams since January 17. Averaging +22.5 points per game against their opponents, only four of their 29 wins have come by less than 10 points. They broke the 80-point plateau 25 times this season, as well as the 90-point mark nine times, while holding opponents to 60 or less points in 13 contests. After falling to the Fort Richmond Centurions in the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference championship, Oak Park looks to return to the top of the high school mountain by winning their second provincial championship in three years, and their sixth overall. The St. Paul's Crusaders return to the Provincial Championship final for the third time in four years, having won the 2014 Championship against the Glenlawn Lions. Averaging +13.5 points per game better than their opponents, they are one of only two teams to score over 3000 points this season. They come in hot as well, scoring no less than 85 points in seven of their last eight games, breaking the 90-point barrier four times and the century mark twice in that span. On the season, they also have only four wins (of 26 total) by less than 10 points, holding teams under 60 points seven times. They also fill the bucket often, scoring 80 or more points 27 times, 90 or more points 13 times, and breaking the 100-point plateau six times on the year. They, too, fell to the Fort Richmond Centurions in the WWAC playoffs, dropping a close semifinal decision, so they look to return to the Promised Land, as they look for their second provincial championship and look to pull off a second single-year Football-Hockey-Basketball trifecta, as they did in 2014. |
